The Cleanse
Basic Cleanse Instructions
This is not a fast it is an energizing liquid feast that cleanses your body, builds your blood, and provides proper nutrition to restore the fluids and cells of your body.
What to Eat
Eat only high water content/low sugar vegetables and fruits, and healthy oils.
• All vegetables with the exception of potatoes, carrots, beets, and squash.
• Green veggies are best. Aim to eat organic whenever possible.
• Eat three or more avocados a day. They can be added to soups, salads, or eaten plain. A quick breakfast is an avocado and tomato sliced up with some spices. Avocado slices on cucumber are also fast and satisfying.
• Spices, Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, and small amounts of stevia are acceptable.
• Eat plenty of good oils during the day. Add oil to your soups and salads. Choose flaxseed oil, Udo’s Choice, extra virgin olive oil, cold-pressed canola or safflower oils. The oils in the dark bottles in the refrigerated section are best.
Three Cleansing Options
• First choice: Process or blend your vegetables and low sugar fruits in a blender or food processor. The energy usually expended on digestion can now be used to heal and restore your body. The nutrients in the foods are also very easily absorbed when blended.
• Second choice: Eat only raw vegetables and low sugar fruits, but they do not need to be blended.
• Third choice: Lightly steam some of your vegetables, and enjoy in a variety of soups.
Of course, you can combine the three options above. Aim to puree your veggies as often as possible.
What Not to Eat
Anything that will clog your body, including:
• Anything not filled with water or that contains sugar, alcohol, caffeine, yeast, fungus, additives, and preservatives.
- These include: coffee, soda, meat, dairy, starch, bread, mushrooms, nuts, wine, beer, and even high sugar fruits and vegetables such as carrots, beets, squash, potatoes, apples, oranges, bananas, etc.
o Even though fruits can have a cleansing effect, they are high in sugar, which acts like glue in our body, and encourages the growth of yeast, fungus, and their poisons.
Hydration and Cleansing Products
You most definitely want to SUPERHYDRATE with an alkalizing vegetable drink during your cleanse. One liter of greens for every 30 pounds of body weight is optimal. I personally drink and recommend Core Vital's Earth Greens and alkalizer. They taste fantastic and have a very high charge (very high in electron energy). Other products to take during a cleanse include magnesium oxide and fish oil supplements.
What to expect:
• Weight loss, if you need it (around one pound a day). If you don’t need to lose weight, increase your healthy oils and avocados.
• Incredible mental clarity, energy, and wellness after the first few days.
• Symptoms of de-toxification, especially the first few days of cleanse.
- Not everyone experiences symptoms, but many people do. Welcome these symptoms, knowing you are experiencing dis-ease leaving your body. These symptoms may include: headache, nausea, flu-like symptoms, loose bowels, skin rashes, fever blisters, cold sores, etc. Try to focus on how much better you will feel when all of these toxins have left your body. If you have a serious health challenge, these symptoms may last for more than a few days, but for most people they are short-lived.
• When done with the cleanse, you will have learned the wonderful, life-sustaining truth that "green" drinks, vegetables, and low sugar fruits can sustain, satisfy, and energize you.
• Following the cleanse, aim to make 70% of your food choices similar to your choices during the cleanse (alkaline/high water content and low sugar veggies and fruits with healthy oils), and your other 30% from choices such as healthy nuts, seeds, fish, tofu, beans, brown rice, spelt and buckwheat pasta, etc. Shelley Young’s Back to the House of Health I and II cookbooks are filled with delicious recipes that make this way of eating completely satisfying and pleasurable.
• The cleanse will help you break unhealthy eating patterns and will set you on a course of lifelong energy, vitality, and wellness. Enjoy your cleanse!
